Some More Fun Before the Summer Ends!

Published on May 28, 2019

Don’t give up on summer fun just yet! We know your kids are out of the camp and a few more days to go for the school reopening. So before we move to a new school year, make some more fun out of these final summer vacation days. Try out these interesting games suggested by our mother blogger, parent of a four year old.

The Leaf Hunt:

Pick an outdoor area like a park or a garden where you are comfortable sending your children on their own. Now, leave the children indoors while you secretly go and pick leaves from different trees/plants/bushes – one leaf for each child. Hand over the children a container with these leaves and let them loose in the green area. The main idea is to match the leaves they are carrying with those growing on the trees/plants.

Travel Alphabet:

Play this game when you are travelling by car, especially long trips, with children. Run through the alphabet from A to Z by asking them to spot the letters, in sequence, on the number plates of other cars travelling on the road etc. Once they’re done with the alphabet, you can move to numbers. Next, you can try spotting different objects or cars or buildings in different colours.

A to Z Scavenger hunt:

Give the children a big box and send them off on a scavenger hunt indoors or outdoors to a park. Set a time limit and have them compete against each other if they want. Ask them to collect any items they can find starting with different letters of the alphabet. So your child may pick up an apple from the kitchen (starts with A), or a ballpoint pen (starts with B) from your work table. All letters of the alphabet must be covered. Make sure all items fits in the box provided. The kids can play this in teams along with their friends too.

Balloon Volleyball:

When you need to keep the children active but it’s too hot to play outside, string up a rope or two dupattas tied together across your hallway indoors. Then hand over the kids a balloon each and have them play balloon volleyball. You can also add a couple of rackets as well and it becomes balloon badminton!

Room Cleaning Race:

Get yourself a timer, sit back and let the child do all the work. Give them time like- Can you put all the cushions back on the couch in 30 seconds? Can all the shoes lying around the house be back to the shoe rack in 2 minutes? Can all the clothes on the bed be folded in 10 minutes? The sound of the timer going off will move your child into action. Remember to have a reward ready for all the hard work.

Hold a Car Wash:

Park your car in the driveway and let the children give it a good scrub with a bucket of water and sponges. You can also join the fun if you don’t mind getting wet yourself. This would be a great way to cool off on a hot summer day and the children will love to do it.
