Setting New Year’s Resolutions for Kids

new year resolutions for preschoolers

Most of us typically start the new year by making resolutions. This year, why not consider getting our kids in on the ritual? For preschoolers, let’s just have short-term resolutions which are achievable and gratified. This will not just teach them to set goals but also choosing achievable resolution will motivate them to take up bigger goals. Big or small, resolution should be focused on the child’s personal goals and desires.

The list goes as this:

Learn new things
Kindergartners can take up small goals like – learn to write your full name, learn sight words, read a story book.

Limit junk
Instead of saying a ‘No’ to junk, start practicing introducing one fruit a day. Keeping a track of the everyday consumption can be interesting for them.

Stay fit
Preschoolers need not get into crust exercise. All they need is some extra outdoor play which includes some running, jumping and hopping.

Be independent
Independently complete one specific chore every day. Make your bed, set dinner table, clean your room.

Adopt a green lifestyle
Children follow the example you lead. Make it a practice that you cut down usage of plastic. Reward them for recycling x no. of products in a week.

Set new milestone
Help your children make resolution to choose two screen-free days each week.
Have goals like early bed and early rise.

Achieving goals can play a critical role in developing children’s self-esteem and confidence. Make sure that the resolution is specific, track-able and attainable. Children may abide by these goals only when they see the evidence of progress.
